Meet the Miller’s
Consider the strange story of Alex and Imogene Miller of East Orange, VT. They eked out an existence on a small farm. Alex would scrounge rusty nails from burnt buildings to repair his roof. He drove a ratty VW Beetle, and when it died, he found another even more ratty, and another…the rusting carcasses littered his yard. Alex died in 1993, and Imogene died in 1996. The local church took up a collection so they could be buried in the churchyard, and the state began the process of taking the farm for taxes. That would have been the end of a sad story, except…
Forget the VW: a ’28 Franklin ($4500US) and a ’23 HCS($14,500 US) lurk inside. While preparing the estate for auction, the sheriff discovered a cache of bearer bonds taped to the back of a mirror. That triggered a comprehensive search of the house and outbuildings. Worldwide sales of the brand with the star were up 23 percent, marking another double-digit increase. A total of 82,700 vehicles were delivered last month (January 2010: 67,000). The introduction of the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission with the “Controlled Efficiency” mode as standard along with a new power steering pump helps to reduce the combined NEDC fuel consumption by about ten percent to 12.0 l/100 km (Estate: 12.3 l/100 km). The output of the AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine is unchanged at 336 kW (457 hp) and can be increased to a maximum of 358 kW (487 hp) with the optional AMG Performance package. Agility, grip and ride comfort have been enhanced as a result of numerous measures to optimise the AMG sports suspension. AMGmarket.com News: SOURCE/Affalterbach – Almost 70,000 readers of German car magazine “Auto Bild Sportscars” submitted their votes to make winners of both the SLS AMG and the E 63 AMG. The SLS AMG took first place in the category “Production Super Sports Cars”, the E 63 AMG among the “Production Saloons”. The award ceremony took place on 3 December 2010 at the Essen Motor Show as part of the Auto Bild “Race Night”.
The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG was up against 11 other contenders in the “Production Super Sports Car” category. 24.5 percent of readers of Auto Bild Sportscars gave their vote to the gullwing model. In a strong field of 15 vehicles in the “Production Saloon” category, the E 63 AMG gained 19.2 percent of votes to come top in its class for the second year running.
