Mercedes-Benz USA Changes Roadside Assistance Program

AMGmarket.com News: Until December 31, 2010, every Mercedes-Benz on the road is eligible for Mercedes-Benz USA’s (MBUSA) Roadside Assistance program. But, on January 1, 2011, that is going to change.

You may recall seeing this on one of the Mercedes-Benz brochures:

Mercedes-Benz was a pioneer of manufacturer-sponsored roadside assistance more than two decades ago. A Mercedes-Benz Roadside Assistance expert is always just a toll-free phone call away at 1-800-FOR-MERCedes (1-800-367-6372).

Our Roadside Assistance dispatchers are there around the clock, they know Mercedes-Benz automobiles, and they love to solve problems. And although our Roadside Assistance technicians don’t wear suits of armor or ride white horses, they will still come to your rescue.

24-hour Roadside Assistance

The prompt appearance of a white-and-blue Mercedes-Benz Roadside Assistance vehicle signals the beginning of the end to your automotive worries. When you need more than over-the-phone guidance or advice, or one of our Sign and Drive services, a trained Mercedes-Benz Roadside Assistance technician will be promptly dispatched.

After the first of the year, Mercedes-Benz vehicles must meet certain criteria to be eligible for Roadside Assistance. Vehicles currently under any Mercedes-Benz warranty – New Vehicle Limited Warranty, Extended Limited Warranty, Certified Pre-owned Warranty – still qualify and so do vehicles that are out of warranty “if” that vehicle is regularly serviced by an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership. What qualifies as serviced by a dealership? A single transaction of at least $100 during the 18 months prior to the Roadside call or “if” the vehicle was purchased directly from an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer by the current owner prior to January 4, 2011.

What this means is Mercedes-Benz vehicles that are no longer under warranty and are not regularly serviced by an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership, or not purchased directly from an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership are no longer eligible for Roadside Assistance. So, those complimentary services such as jump-starts, tows to a dealership, flat tire changes, etc. are basically being phased out for MB owners that don’t occasionally visit the dealership for service.
